The motorcycle is the primary mode of transport in Indonesia, and making this safer for parents to carry their children was the motivation behind Roihatul’s business idea.
Whilst transporting her child from school, Roihatul soon realised that she needed something on the back of the motorcycle that could keep him safe, especially as he might easily fall asleep, and tumble off the bike, during the ride home.
Like many great ideas, Roihatul’s solution to her problem was simple, yet effective. She devised a portable child carrier which could be easily fitted to the rear of the bike. It had a cushioned seat for comfort and harness straps to hold the child safely, even if he should fall asleep.
Educated and experienced in Public Health matters, Roihatul refined her design to produce a carrier that successfully combines safety and comfort.
As there was nothing else like it on the market, other parents asked Roihatul if she could make them one. Her idea took off and due to the high level of demand, Roihatul decided to start her own business, Helmiat Bonceng Bocah, to produce the innovative child safety carriers.
Media coverage has generated massive interest in the product, and the business has moved to larger premises to expand manufacturing to meet the growing demand.
Roihatul plans to build even bigger workshops, employ more staff, and engage a network of distributors to enable the company to reach a national market.
Finding an enterprising solution to a need and starting a business has enabled Roihatul to make a significant contribution to improving road safety in Indonesia.
